Chennai, India – The much-anticipated Formula 4 (F4) race in Chennai, set to be India’s first-ever night street race, has faced significant delays and challenges on the eve of the event.

FIA Suggests Changes to Track – Formula 4 Chennai

According to reports, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the governing body of motorsports, has suggested changes to the 3.7-km street circuit after inspecting the track. The FIA team reportedly found some of the 19 turns to be too sharp, putting the organizers in a difficult position.

Organizer Seeks Extension from High Court

The organizer, Racing Promotion Private Limited (RPPL), was directed by the Madras High Court to obtain the mandatory FIA certificate before holding the event. RPPL has now moved the court with an emergency petition seeking an extension to submit the certification.

Practice Session Delayed – Formula 4 Chennai

Leading drivers who had arrived in Chennai to participate in the historic race were forced to return to their hotels after the practice session was delayed due to the track not being ready on time. Drivers like Nikhil Bohra and Jon Lancaster were seen leaving the circuit.

Organizer Promises Updated Schedule

In an official statement, the organizer apologized to fans for the delay in racing activities due to technical issues. They assured that they are working diligently to resolve the situation and promised to share an updated schedule by 5 pm. [ Formula 4 Chennai ]

Despite the delays, the Greater Chennai Police have already implemented traffic diversions and road closures around the circuit area from August 30 to September 1. Heavy and light commercial vehicles have been banned in several locations during the event hours.

The inaugural Formula 4 race in Chennai was expected to be a historic moment for Indian motorsports, but the event has now run into significant hurdles just a day before the scheduled start.
